Feelin’ safe over there, behind your computer, that’s so nice ‘n’ comfy anonymous? Perhaps not anymore in a few years. Over a hundred hardware manufacturers have come to the agreement to equip future computer systems with a so-called TPM.

It’s an innocent looking little chip (don’t they all look totally innocent to the non-tech observer?) that functions as a hard-wired, non-hackable (?) fingerprint for your particular machine. Right now, they’re only put into a few commercial machines, but soon, they will be placed in new consumer computers.

It’s good to have a loving and omniscient big brother looking over our shoulder, making sure we’re not doing anything to hurt ourselves…
